A Tsing Yi Story: Sing Gei 勝記
Back in 2020, on one warm November morning I sat down with my Uncle and Aunt and recorded their take on the history of Chung Mei Village in Tsing Yi. My goal with the project was to share with the world, stories that are not as often told and capturing thoughts and memories of life before the development of the little island of Tsing Yi.
It often surprises me how little people know of the history of the land they live on, and of how little importance is placed on the education of indigenous history in Hong Kong. I feel as if it’s my duty to help educate people on indigenous history in Hong Kong, to assist however I can in assuring a future of growth and development for the indigenous people of the New Territories.
